Mustard Oil RefineryA LEAP INTO THE FUTURE…
Puri Oil Mills Ltd.
has made its maiden foray into infrastructure development, the exciting world of endless opportunity and challenge. The company has availed the benefit of the scheme launched by the Govt. of Himachal Pradesh, wherein independent Private investors have been invited by the state to set up Small Hydro Projects in Himachal Pradesh. The move has primarily been made to help harness the well endowed waterways of the state and hence the tremendous potential to produce low cost electricity for the state.

Puri Oil Mills Ltd. has been allocated two independent sites in the picturesque surroundings of upper Kullu Valley and the Mandi District where the water supply is almost perennial. The detailed Project report of both the Projects have been submitted to HIMURJA, the nodal agency for executing Small Hydel Power in Himachal Pradesh. The Techno Economic clearances are underway and the plants are likely to be commissioned by early 2007. Site No. (1) Uhl Khad – 4 MW, District Mandi, (2) Chaksi Nala – 2 MW, District Kullu.

Cooking Oil RefineryNegotiations are also being carried out with European companies in the hydropower sector for technical collaboration for the Uhl and Chaksi Projects. Once the power generation is initiated, the company shall also explore the possibility of evacuating and transferring power to its very own mustard oil manufacturing facility at Damtal, H.P. If successfully executed, this shall be a pioneering effort towards backwards integration of sorts.

Puri Oil Mills Ltd. is also in the process of scouting for independent sites in Uttranchal and Haryana to set up Hydro Power Projects in the newly identified hydro rich states. These power projects shall be aimed at making the group’s manufacturing facilities self reliant.

India is making rapid strides in infrastructure development as it competes with other emerging economies to establish its supremacy in an integrating global economy and it is a matter of great pride that the Puri Group is also vying for its rightful share in the picture.

Puri Oil Mills Ltd has recently diversified into the emerging small hydro power sector, in the state of Haryana in North India as well. The company has been allotted 2 prime hydro power generating sites on the Augmentation canal carved out of the famed Yamuna river passing through Haryana. The sites are located in Villages Mussapur and Khuni both lying in District Karnal, only about 10 kms from the nearest township of Ladwa, a famous timber belt in the area.  Both the sites have a power generating potential of 1.4 MW each and the commissioning is all set to take place by April ’2009. The company is also exploring the possibility of using the power for capture usage for its edible oil processing facility at Bahadurgarh, Haryana- a breakthrough of sorts. Further progress on the project will be updated on the site from time to time.
