Winter Worries?

No matter how well you take care of your hair all through the year, the arrival of winter brings with it a whole lot of problems. Suddenly, your hair is dry and lacklustre; it looks rough and feels like straw. Your scalp is all itchy and uncomfortable. That soft, silky texture that you worked so hard to create is gone – and your regular shampoo and conditioner just can’t seem to bring it back.

Don’t worry. There are some time-tested natural remedies that you can use to keep your hair shiny and bouncy… all through the cold winter months.

The home remedies we will describe in this post are based on cold-pressed Mustard Oil. Take a little Mustard Oil in a bowl; dip the fingertips of both hands into it and gently massage the oil into your scalp. Mustard Oil is a natural moisturizer – it nourishes the hair follicles and strengthens and hydrates the hair. This oil is also rich in natural Vitamin E, Selenium and Omega-3 Fatty Acids – all these play a key role in promoting hair growth and preventing hair damage.

Here’s an ancient home remedy that improves the texture of your hair. In a bowl mix a tablespoon of cold-pressed Mustard Oil with a tablespoon of yogurt (Dahi). Mix well to form a thick paste and then apply it on your scalp. Cover your head with a hot, moist towel, tying it into a loose turban to hold it in place. Keep it on for at least 30 minutes. Then rinse the mixture out of your hair with mild soap or shampoo. Do this at least thrice a week throughout the cold winter months and your hair will stay hydrated, healthy and lustrous.

You can supplement the above hair treatment by making your own conditioner at home. Take twelve leaves of green tea and grind them into a coarse powder. Add one tablespoon of cold-pressed Mustard Oil and mix well. Apply this mixture to your hair before your bath and leave it on for around 30 minutes. Then rinse it out when you take a bath. Do this thrice a week for silky, strong hair with a gentle shine.

Don’t let the cold, dry, chilly weather turn your lovely hair into a mess. Just try these simple natural home remedies and look your best – all through the winter months.
