Learning goes far beyond textbooks. Recently, Puri Oil Mills Limited had the pleasure of turning its Damtal factory into a living classroom for a day. We welcomed students and faculty from Dhauladhar View Public School for an educational visit designed to offer young learners a first-hand look at how food manufacturing works—from raw mustard seeds to the final packaged bottle of oil.

The visit was all about curiosity, discovery, and understanding how everyday kitchen staples are made with care, precision, and responsibility.
About the Visit
A bus full of enthusiastic students along with their teachers and principle arrived at the factory and spent nearly two and a half hours exploring the facility, learning about processes, and engaging in thoughtful discussions.
The children were warmly welcomed and provided refreshments before the tour began. Their excitement was evident throughout—from curious conversations and attentive listening to the heartfelt applause and thank-yous shared before departure.

From Seed to Bottle: Understanding Mustard Oil
We felt proud to give the students a tour of our full production process so they could see how mustard oil ends up in their homes.
They started by exploring different mustard seeds and learning why quality begins at the source—like the high-quality seeds we use from Haryana and Rajasthan. Then, they saw how we clean the seeds with automated systems, showing how we maintain hygiene and consistency.
A real highlight was watching the cold-press extraction. Students learned how oil is extracted naturally to preserve its flavor and nutrients. They followed the journey of the prepared batches as they moved on conveyor belts and elevators into the expeller, where the oil is pressed out and transferred to tanks for filtering.
They were especially interested to learn that we never use additives—the oil is filtered naturally through thick cotton cloth. We also talked about sustainability, showing how the leftover mustard cake becomes nutritious cattle feed, a great example of zero-waste practices.
Finally, they saw the filling and packaging, completing the journey from seed to bottle.
Beyond Manufacturing: Inspiring Young Minds

Throughout the visit, students showed remarkable attentiveness, curiosity, and sincerity. Their questions—about machines, quality checks, and safety standards—turned the tour into an interactive learning experience.
Such exposure not only strengthens practical understanding but also introduces young minds to potential future careers in food technology, manufacturing, engineering, and operations.
Our Commitment to Community & Education

At Puri Oil Mills Limited, we believe that opening our doors to educational institutions is a small yet meaningful step toward nurturing informed, curious, and responsible future citizens. The thoughtful memento and letter shared by the school were deeply appreciated and reflected the mutual value of this exchange.
We hope to continue supporting learning that goes beyond the classroom—rooted in transparency, tradition, and trust.
